Creative Clay Cultural Arts Center
1124 Central Avenue St Petersburg, FL 33705 Kim Dohrman Interim Exec Dir
Since 1995, Creative Clay has been providing artists who have developmental or physical disabilities and/or mental illness with an opportunity to pursue their passion for art making in our community arts program. Our mission is to make the arts accessible to all. We now offer seven unique and socially integrated programs to serve populations that have been traditionally marginalized in society. Our Community Arts Program offers studio instruction, vocational training and community experiences for adults who have disabilities. All classes are taught by local professional art instructors from the Tampa Bay community.
CreativeCare, our arts in medicine program, sends trained professional artists into hospitals and healthcare settings to work with patients and families. Creative Clay's Transition program is a collaborative venture with the Pinellas County School system, which provides a post-secondary educational opportunity for 18–22 year-olds to receive vocational and instructional arts training. Artlink is a supported employment initiative pairing Creative Clay member artists with professional artists from the community at a one to one ratio. Teams work together for six months to create a body of work to exhibit professionally at a local cultural venue. This highly competitive program provides paychecks for both the professional artist, as well as the Creative Clay member artist. Artworks retail shop was created as a platform for vocational training in retail and graphic design. This unique shop features products designed by our member artists, student artists and summer campers. Creative Clay's Summer Arts Camp, Art Around the World, is a mixed abilities camp for children ages 6–12. Transition Summer Open Studio provides a setting for mixed abilities arts experiences for students ages 13–22.
